The health of your employees is important: in addition to moral and legal obligations, it is also an economic factor. When external companies come into the building, further risks arise for which the company is responsible in terms of occupational safety.
Systematic occupational health and safety is therefore much more than just an image factor: it ensures trust and credibility among customers and the public – which also benefits employer branding.
A practised management system for occupational health and safety (OHSMS)
ensures improved compliance
increases employee satisfaction
helps to prevent absences due to accidents and illness
minimises risks from accidents, even for guests and external companies
Certified companies demonstrate that they are reliable partners – also for suppliers and in tenders.
Benefits of certification
Compliance
Certification is a strong public sign that the company management is complying with its legal obligations. Internally, the certification provides improved legal certainty for those responsible within the company.
Stakeholder dialogue
By involving all relevant stakeholders, you can critically examine your risks and optimise your processes.
Profitability
Increased production reliability, fewer days lost due to illness, less overload, motivated, healthy employees, fewer errors and, where applicable, lower contributions to your professional association: an SGA-MS has more impact than simply preventing accidents.
Competitive advantage
In many tenders, proof of an occupational safety management system is a criterion.
Customer loyalty
Internal processes are optimised, customer and employee loyalty is increased, and communication with stakeholders is improved.
Facts and information
ISO 45001:2023 ‘Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use’ (OHSMS) contains all the requirements that a company must implement in order to introduce and apply an OHSMS in accordance with international best practice knowledge.
It follows the ‘High Level Structure (HLS)’ and can therefore be easily combined with other ISO management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 50001 or ISO 14001).
The ‘new’ ISO 45001 was published in December 2023. There are no changes to the content of DIN ISO 45001:2018. The most important new feature is probably its inclusion as a European standard. ISO 45001 is now officially called DIN EN ISO 45001:2023. However, this has no consequences for its application or certification.
If any of the following topics concern you, ISO 45001 is relevant for you:
Production safety
Skilled worker shortage
Accidents caused by external companies
Occupational health and safety regulations
Employee satisfaction
Work intensification / expansion of responsibilities
ISO 45003:2021 (Occupational health and safety management – Mental health and safety at work – Guidance) supports you in managing psychosocial stress at work.
Mental health issues are now the third leading cause of employee absenteeism in many industries. If you are doing everything you can to minimise these risks and integrate ISO 45003 into your OHSMS, it may be useful to have this checked by external experts. In connection with regular audits according to ISO 45001, we also offer in-depth audits according to ISO 45003. If you are interested, simply ask your contact person at GUTcert. To prepare for internal and external audits, you are welcome to use our checklist for ISO 45003. GUTcert customers can find the checklist in the download area. The English document is freely available.
DIN EN ISO 45001:2023 Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use. The content of DIN EN ISO 45001:2023 corresponds to ISO 45001:2018.
Management systems according to ISO 45001 can be certified.
DIN ISO 45002:2024 Occupational health and safety management systems – General guidelines for the implementation of ISO 45001:2018
As a guideline without fixed criteria against which it can be audited, it is not certifiable. The ISO was published in February 2023. The German version was published in April 2024.
ISO 45003:2021 Occupational health and safety management – Psychological safety and health in the workplace – Guidelines for the management of psychosocial risks
It is not independently certifiable, but there are legal requirements that companies must take psychological risks into account in their risk assessments. It is therefore relevant for all companies and can also be examined in depth in an audit according to ISO 45001. Please feel free to request a quote from us. To prepare for internal and external audits, you are welcome to use our checklist for ISO 45003. GUTcert customers can find the checklist in the download area.
ISO 45004:2024 Occupational health and safety management – Guidelines for performance evaluation
ISO 45004, published in 2024, provides guidance to organisations on how to effectively monitor, measure, analyse and evaluate their occupational health and safety performance. It will provide guidance and examples of performance evaluation processes to support organisations in their continuous improvement efforts.
ISO/PAS 45005 Occupational health and safety management – General guidelines for safe working during the COVID-19 pandemic
As a guideline, it is not certifiable. No German translation has been made. The English version is freely available from ISO. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is behind us, you may want to have input for an emergency plan in case a similar pandemic occurs in the future.
ISO 45006:2023 Occupational health and safety management – Guidelines for organisations on the prevention and management of infectious diseases
ISO 45006:2023 is a guideline and therefore not certifiable. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that infectious diseases can have a major impact on politics, society and our daily work. The spectrum of infectious diseases is broad and poses ever greater challenges for companies. ISO 45006 supports you in your efforts to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious agents in the workplace and shows you how to deal with these hazards.
The long period of cooperation since 1997/98 is proof enough of the valued and trusting collaboration. Anyone who voluntarily takes on EMAS and the ISO standards needs a reliable and practice-orientated certifier like GUTcert.

In the years of cooperation, we have had various auditors in our company, but all of them were competent, honest, fair and you could immediately recognise that they were interested in advancing the company. The successful co-operation is already evident from the fact that Vosseler GmbH has been able to continuously improve and develop its management systems over the period of certification by GUTcert.

Certification process
Requirements for certification
You implement the requirements of ISO 45001 (available from Beuth-Verlag, for example) in your company. If necessary, you attend one of our courses at the academy to acquire the necessary expertise.
Our existing customers will find a checklist for ISO 45001 in the internal download area, which they can use to check whether the standard requirements have already been fully implemented.
Request a quote
You request a quote from us for ISO 45001 certification. We check your details and prepare a free, non-binding quote tailored to your needs. Upon commissioning, we will name the lead auditor. The practical planning and testing of your SGA-MS is carried out in direct consultation with the lead auditor.
Our auditors come from the field and have many years of experience in business and industry. Always up to date, they assess the efficiency of your processes, evaluate the effectiveness of the measures introduced and motivate the employees involved. In this way, the external audit provides you with valuable information and encourages further improvements.
Thanks to the multiple qualifications of our auditors, integrated and combined certification procedures are centrally controlled, ensuring time- and cost-efficient processing.
Our audit procedure in detail
The results of the audit are submitted to the GUTcert certification body and reviewed again by the certification committee. Once the certification committee has made a positive decision, you will receive the certificate. A detailed description of our audit procedure can be found here.
