New regulations, increasing environmental pollution, heightened pressure from NGOs and changing consumer behaviour are bringing about major changes for many companies, but also offer the potential to operate in an environmentally friendly manner, tap into new markets and generate higher profits thanks to an improved image.
With ISCC-PLUS, the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) is expanding its certification system to include food and feed, technical and chemical materials, in particular bioplastics, cosmetics, packaging and bioenergy applications.
ISCC-PLUS can be used by both non-certified companies and interfaces already certified under ISCC-EU. Companies wishing to obtain ISCC-PLUS certification can select several voluntary modules in addition to the minimum requirements:
Food safety according to the Food Security Standard (FSS)
Greenhouse gas emissions according to ISCC PLUS methodology
GMO-free food and feed
GMO-free technical markets
Electricity and heat from biogas plants
Advantages of an ISCC-PLUS certification
Trustworthy
ISCC-PLUS is the world's leading certification system for bioeconomy and circular economy and is recognised by the market as proof of sustainable production.
Flexible and adaptable
The ISCC PLUS system is constantly being adapted to new industry requirements: your feedback as a system participant enables new developments.
Trackable
Since an end product is only ISCC PLUS sustainable if the entire supply chain has been ISCC certified, alternative resources can be used throughout the value chain.
Sustainability Claims
Products with certified on-product claims demonstrate a commitment to the bioeconomy and circular economy.
Self-declaration: Producers must provide a signed declaration confirming that the biomass or waste/residual materials comply with the ISCC PLUS sustainability criteria.
Delivery documentation: Each delivery of sustainable ISCC PLUS products must be clearly labelled (including the certificate number) and weighed or measured to determine the quantity.
Mass balance: A substrate-specific mass balance is required for each location, which allows physical mixing of quantities but records sustainability information separately.
If you decide to work with GUTcert, an on-site audit will be conducted to assess compliance with the requirements of the ISCC PLUS system. Once GUTcert has successfully reviewed the audit documents, you will receive a certificate proving compliance with the sustainability criteria in accordance with ISCC PLUS. The certificate is valid for one year and is renewed before expiry by means of a recertification audit.
If your company is already ISCC-EU certified, you only need to have the specific PLUS requirements and those of the optionally selected modules audited. With little effort, this enables you to tap into many new markets for your company and greatly increase your competitiveness.
